Before you book: give the details a second look

You find a flight that looks right. The price is appealing, the dates fit, and the booking button is waiting. This is the moment to pause—not for another endless search, but for one careful look at what you are actually buying.

A flight can look excellent in a results list and feel very different when you follow it all the way to your accommodation. We like to compare that complete journey before choosing a ticket.

Read the times as a traveller

Check the departure date, the arrival date and any overnight connection. An early arrival might give you more time at your destination, but it can also leave a gap before your room is available. A late arrival needs a workable plan for transport and access to your accommodation.

Picture the first few hours after landing. Will you be ready to explore, or looking for food and sleep? If you are travelling with children, older relatives or anyone who needs assistance, think about what will make that arrival manageable for them too.

Make the connection make sense

Look beyond the length of the layover. Check the airports and terminals, whether the journey is on one ticket or separate tickets, and whether you need to collect and recheck bags. Ask the airline what happens if the first flight is delayed.

Separate tickets deserve particular attention. Do not assume the onward airline will rearrange your flight if an earlier journey runs late. Check the conditions for each booking and the airport transfer process before deciding how much time to allow.

British Airways’ official connection guidance illustrates why ticket arrangements and airport procedures matter. Use the instructions for your own airlines and airports; one airport’s advice is not a universal connection rule.

Check the bag you plan to take

Compare fares with your actual luggage in mind. Check cabin baggage dimensions, weight, the number of items allowed and any checked baggage allowance. If more than one airline operates the trip, confirm the rules that apply to each part.

IATA explains that baggage rules are set by airlines and can vary by route and the product purchased. Its travel and baggage guidance is a useful starting point, but your own booking and airline policy are the details to check.

Find out what changing your mind would cost

Read the fare conditions before paying. Can you change the date? Is a refund available? What happens if you miss departure? Where changes are permitted, check whether fees and fare differences apply. Save a copy of the conditions offered with your booking.

Compare the total with the extras you actually need. Baggage, seat selection, airport transfers or an overnight stop can change the comparison. The right choice depends on the full journey and how much flexibility you need.

Treat entry and transit checks as part of the route

Check the official entry and transit guidance for your passport, residence and itinerary. Do this for connection points as well as the final destination. If anything is unclear, confirm it with the relevant authority and airline before committing to the route.

For journeys being planned around a visa application, check the official instructions about travel reservations before purchasing a ticket. Do not assume that buying a flight establishes eligibility or guarantees a visa decision.

One last check before payment

Read back the passenger details against the travel document, the exact airports, every date, the baggage and the final total. Confirm who you are booking with and how you will contact them if something needs to change. Keep the confirmation where you can find it offline.

Then book with a clearer picture of the journey ahead. If you want a second pair of eyes on the options, ask us for flight and travel assistance. We can discuss your route, timing and requirements before preparing a personalised quote.
